For the anxious

If I forget, even for a day, an hour, a minute, how threatening the
world is, I will be attacked.  The world will fall apart.  I must be on
guard at all times.

For the depressed

If I am content with my circumstances, if I am grateful for what I
have, then I will become complacent and never have more.  I must
remember, at all times, that what I have is unacceptable.

They say that it takes more energy to frown than to smile.  It also
takes more energy to be miserable than to be okay.  To remain
miserable, we must constantly ignore the evidence of the world in the
moment.

We
wish that our protectionism could keep us safe.  We wish that
we could be more than just safe.  We
wish that we could accomplish
more and that this would finally make us happy.

If wishes were horses...

Imagine that you could feel happier and more secure and have more
energy by wishing it to be so.  Imagine.  The fact is, there is a way to
bring these things about, but wishing has little to do with it.

Try these self statements:

For the anxious

Just for this moment, I see that there is nothing that can harm me.
Just for this moment, I am safe.  Just for this moment, I can relax.

For the depressed

Just for this moment, I will be grateful for what I have.  I will be
okay with what I am doing
