Psychotherapy & counseling services involve much more than psychology and the study of
the human mind. The services I provide, ultimately are psychological in nature, but are drawn
from a great breadth of human experience. Not everyone has been satisfied with the range
of counseling opportunities described in the directories and websites they have viewed.
Some are looking for something else.
Below you will find descriptions of some of the services I provide. They may not all seem
psychological, but they are. They all involve therapy and ways by which people can make
things better for themselves and for the world in which they live. They all require the
astonishing power of the human mind and something else. Our question is, "What is that
something else and where can I find it?" It may not be where I thought I'd find it.
Services: It's not just psychology anymore.
Psychotherapy
Talk Therapy Plus
Long term, contemplative,
& symbolic. In
psychotherapy, this is
where we get down to the
heart of who we are.
Experiential Therapy
It's been said that the best
teacher is direct experience.
Experiential therapy involves
the assignment of new
experiences with follow up
discussion. Resistance &
difficulty with the assign-
ments are examined.
Behavior Therapy for
Them
What you can do to
effectively change the
behavior of others. Because
face it, it isn't always about
you.
Affecting Change
Through Language
Change
The language we use has
an incredible impact on how
we think, feel, and get
along with others.

The World Game
How we believe the world
works affects our sense of
place in it and what we can
do to make it better. Based
upon the group work
designed by R. Buckminster
Fuller. Click
Learning to Learn
How to learn anything.
Specific techniques are
taught. Psychological
resistance is examined
when obstacles arise.
Persuasion
Gaining cooperation.
Winning hearts & minds.
Voluntary Controls
Exercises to help
memorization, process
speed, organization,
concentration, relaxation,
and switching gears.
Mastering the basic abilities
of every successful change.
Mediation Service
I can mediate nearly
anything. I am not an
enforcer however. That's
what attorneys are for.
There are several I work
with if you need them.
Systems
From cars & computers,
ecology & economy
personal psychology &
family dynamics. Learning
about systems can bring
insight into how the world
works.
Political & Social
Psychology
Personal psychology has
much to do with values of
society and political
activities which affect them.
Examine current trends and
their relevance to your life.
Behavior Therapy for
You
Not all changes require you
to be deeply psychological.
Solid research supports a
mechanical change in
behavior. Simple as that.
Taming Emotions
through Mindfulness
& Meditation
Few of us would ever want
to get rid of our emotions.
Few of us enjoy being at
the mercy of them though.
How to Be Normal
No matter how creative we
are, and no matter how
much we embrace our
individuality, it is helpful to
know the "language" of
normality and how to
behave "normally" if and
when we choose to.
"Mental Illness"
Don't buy it. If "mental
illness" has entered your
world, speak with a
professional who doesn't
buy it either. Being sane in
an insane place is a very
hard place to be.
It Doesn't Have To Be
This Way
Invention
It can be that way. At every
turn, life offers you an
opportunity to invent.
It has never been "others"
who've written the books
and manuals.
It Doesn't Have To Be
So Hard
Ockham's Razor & the tale of
the Gordian Knot are but two
of the ideas which can help
us turn complexities into
simplicities. Solutions upon
which we an act immediately
and with clarity.
Time
Time is a universal
phenomenon which affects
everything we do. More
often than not, the great
importance of it is
addressed inadequately in
therapy. How does time
itself effect your life?
Love
Some would say love is also
universal - affecting every
thing we do & behind all
motivation and satisfaction.
Central to music and
literature, the word "love"
seems curiously missing in
therapy settings.
Your Passions
Breaking it down. What you
really want and don't want.
What you really don't care
about one way or another.
Great clarity comes from
knowing the difference.
Addictions,
Compulsions, &
Attachment
Buddhist approaches to
irresistible cravings & urges
can help us understand a
lot about them (whether you
are Buddhist or not). Click.
Mindfulness Click
Learning to pay better
attention opens our eyes to
beauty and satisfaction
which already exists in the
world, both inner and outer.
Mindfulness hastens our
ability to solve problems.
"Don't Know" Mind
The greatest obstacle to
discovery is not ignorance -
it is the illusion of
knowledge (Daniel J.
Boorstin). Dare to be naive
(R. Buckminster Fuller,
American architect and
inventor). Click.
Beginner's Mind
Another Buddhist concept,
beginner's mind is about
confronting our choices to be
experts about things which
aren't working rather than
beginners at things which will.
Think "new beginnings," &
"first steps." Click.
Emptiness
Often, the feeling of
emptiness is avoided at all
costs and drives people to
desperate short term relief.
In Buddhism, accepting and
sitting still with emptiness
can bring the deepest
peace of all.
Illusion Click
In Buddhist views, all is
illusion. We are often
mistaken about what we
see. A closer look for what
is true and real gives us a
firmer base in reality and
this leads to clearer and
more effective action.
Counseling
& Consultation
Sometimes just casual talk,
this may also involve,
planning, goal setting,
active follow through, and
assessment of effective-
ness. Good discussion and
thoughtful feedback.
Our Bodies
Eat, Drink, Rest, Poop & Pee
Tending to the body and
maximizing physical energy is
essential to our well being
and vitality. Often, that which
we experience as emotional
problems is a negligence of
simple basics.
Imagination
Imagination is more
important than knowledge
(Albert Einstein). If all is
illusion, then it may be our
task is to simply create a
better illusion. Does our
imagination matter? Where
does change start?
Paradox & Yin Yang
So often we are driven to
indecision because we
believe we must choose
one truth over another.
Black-Or-White thinking is
addressed in both Western
and Eastern Therapies.
Other People
Relationships
Most of us have
experienced, dare we say,
the majority of our problems
in relation to other people.
How can this be when we
long so much for
togetherness with others?
Relationships
We are always in
relationship with others.
This is a given. Therefore,
all the principles which
apply to individual therapy
apply, as well, to groups,
couples, friends,
co-workers, and families.
Metaphor &
Generalization
Sometimes the best way to
convey an idea is through
metaphor or allegory. Many
things in this world work on
the same principle. Under-
standing one idea helps us
understand another.
Fighting & Rebellion
There is a time and a place
and an art to fighting. When
the time calls for us to
assert ourselves, to put an
end to exploitation and
abuse or start a revolution,
strong and effective fighting
skills will give us power.
The Importance Of
"Yes" & The Power of
"No"
Hundreds of times a day we
choose yes or no, but we
do not always choose the
way we'd like. Learn how to
mean what you say & say
what you mean.
Silence
A quiet environment and a
stillness of mind can help
us get through the chaos
and clutter of our incessant
thought and talk.
Quietude realigns us and
gives peace & clarity.
Alternative States of
Consciousness
Beyond ordinary states of
consciousness are ways of
being, feeling, and knowing
which can be very different
and deeply liberating. Why
settle for what society and
culture gave you?
Mysticism
Transcending opposites
and conflict, mystical exper-
ience occurs when there is
no longer a conscious
sense of separation of
ourself from other things.
Feng Shui
In addition to people, we live
in a world of things. We
regularly think about water,
air, houses, streets, & so on
and we position ourselves in
relation to them. A closer look
at the things in this world can
bring us greater joy.
It's Not Just About
Psychology Anymore
There is no accounting for
the bounty of things, and
experiences, and states of
mind available to us and it's
not all about psychology.
It's about much more.
